Many people travel the roadways and sidewalks in and through the South Main area each day. Safety is important to all of us and we are want you to reach your destination safely.
Please remember these simple rules.
When walking
- Cross only at designated crosswalks. Jaywalking is illegal and METRO POLICE and HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT officers will ticket violators.
- Only enter a crosswalk when the pedestrian signal displays "WALK". Never enter the intersection or crosswalk when "DON'T WALK" is displayed.
- Pay attention to the crossing signals. Never enter an intersection against the traffic light.
- Set an example by obeying the rules and share the message.
When driving
- When driving stay alert to your surroundings. Watch for trains and pedestrians.
- Left turns will only be allowed at signalized intersections.
- Always stop for pedestrians. Never assume they see you.
- When approaching an intersection, always stop behind the crosswalk.
