Combining Travel Modes PDF Print E-mail

The South Main area has all the transportation options available for travel in the Houston Area. Many people can avoid using their car and save money by combining the modes. The information here will give you ideas about how to combine the different modes and links to the information to help you plan your trip.

Car Pool to Bus to Rail

With the price of gas over $2 per gallon you can drive to the nearest Park and Ride lot and take the bus for about $4 per day with a METRO Cash Card. Better yet, find someone on your street that wants to share a ride to the Park and Ride and cut the cost of getting there in half.

If the bus route you are on does not go into the South Main area, take a bus to one of the METRORail stations and take the train.

Car Pool or Van Pool to Rail to Trolley

Riding with someone else and sharing the cost of gas will save you many dollars and likely travel time. You will glide past the heavy traffic entering and leaving the South Main Area by taking METRORail from the parking lot to your destination. If your destination is close to the route of the Texas Medical Center shuttle, you can jump on at certain rail stations and avoid the walk.

Remember there are many surface parking lots in the downtown area near the Bell Station and the METRO Transit Center Station. Those lots are near access to US-59, US-288 and I-45 and a only short ride on the rail to your destination.

Car Pool or Van Pool to Trolley

If you do not know anyone to car pool with then METRO can help you locate someone. Share a ride to the TMC Transit Center and catch the TMC Trolley to your destination. The shuttle costs $1 and goes from Hermann Pressler Dr. to North MacGregor Dr.
