In 1997, the South Main Alliance (SMA) joined with area museums to form the Houston Museum District Association as a vehicle to enhance and promote the museum district as a destination for Houstonians and visitors to Houston. Visiting by Bus or Rail: METRO provides direct access to Houston Museums via bus routes and the METRORail.
